File this in “where the hell did this come from”?
Sony has finally opened up the Playstation Store, aimed directly at PSP users (although inaccessible from the handheld itself). The store features demos, videos and tonnes of full games; classic PS1 titles, PSN games and even full PSP titles like Fired Up and B-Boy.
The first free demos available are LocoRoco, Metal Gear Solid – Portable Ops, Ridge Racer 2, Warhammer 40k and Worms: Open Warfare 2.
You can also grab a number of Playstation 1 titles for only £3.49: they are also compatible with the PS3.
PS1 titles available in the store are Cool Boarders, Crash Bandicoot, Crash Team Racing, Everybody’s Golf 2, Jumping Flash, MediEvil, Syphon Filter and Syphon Filter 3.
Most exciting is the prospect of full PSP titles and unique downloadable. The ones available in the UK (as lucky Americans get the brilliant Wipeout Pure) are:
Beats – £4.99 (A brand new music game that creates game sessions from your MP3s)
Go! Puzzle! – £3.49
Go! Sudoku! – £9.99
B-Boy – £14.99
Fired Up – £14.99
The real shame is that content must be downloaded to your PC and then transferred across to your handheld via. USB. Load the site up on your PSP and you’re greeted with an error message. A half baked service, I’m sure you’ll agree – this is merely an answer to those without PS3 systems.
If you try it out, leave a comment on your experience. You’ll need firmware 3.70.
