Guitar Hero DS is… weird.

After turning up in on retailer and age rating sites, Activision has now officially revealed ‘Guitar Hero On Tour’ for the DS. As expected, it uses a peripheral: with four buttons, plugging in to the GBA port.

It doesn’t make much sense in pictures so there’s luckily a video above, but basically the DS is held sideways, that hand is holding the system through a grip on the appropriately named ‘guitar grip’, and will also hold down the fret buttons. Your other hand will be strumming using the included pick shaped stylus.

There’s obviously been thought of portability as they’ve opted for something relatively small and not having it larger to resemble a guitar, but honestly, it’s just so strange that without trying it hands on, there’s little indication of whether this crazy idea will actually work. We’ll see, when Activision release this Vicarious Visions developed game this summer.

…But will it work on my DS Phat?

Good question. No word yet, but the peripheral showed there won’t: the DS Phat’s GBA port is deeper, and looking at the picture and video… no, that one won’t. DS Phat and DS Lite versions are a possibility, though I am sure they must have considered this.

    That’s quite ingenious.

There better be a Phat G-Grip.

I’m assuming a new track-list, then? If it’s as good as GHIII’s, I might cry out of joy.

Aye, “at least” 20 tracks. Don’t be surprised if we see some songs from GH1 through III aswell, but there will of course be new tracks.

Of course you’ll want headphones on because the DS speakers kinda suck. That’s gonna be weird with them being at the top of the console when it’s held like that.

DS Phat is an informal name given to the original model of the DS.

Looks awkward to me, but wii version is great. Will need to see it in flesh so to speak as to see if it would give the same feeling as holding the basic guitar!!

Apparantly, the G-Grip will work on the DS Phat, although I really don’t think it’ll be very comfortable, as it looks pretty awkward on the Lite.
