And that’s the general reaction to a new Sonic game being announced.
At BGB we’ve developed an inability to care whenever something like Sonic Rush Riders Adventure Rivals 2 is announced, but these supposed leaked screenshots of Sonic Unleashed are attention worthy.
Apparently obtained from a Sega press FTP (with accompanying art and video, which hasn’t been released yet) the screenshots below show Sonic in beautiful looking, Blue Dragon-esque environments labelled as being Greece and Africa, as well as a few captures from a cutscene featuring old enemy Eggman. Oh yes, and there’s some silly robot enemy that matches where design in Sonic game has been going recently.
It’s quite easy to get excited about the game from these screenshots, but remember Sonic 2006? Yeah, that had some great stuff on first reveal, and was heralded as a ‘return to form’, and then people played it. So, enjoy the screenshots, but don’t get your hopes up too much for the game.
No platforms have been announced, but to be fair, the game hasn’t been officially announced either.
Update: At world record speeds, this game has gone from awesome to ruined. See, watch this video. Ok, it’s a bit empty as it’s an early build of the game, but it looks as if could be good. Now, look at this. It’s linked to save you from the horror more than once. Yeah, Sonic has a werewolf form who you play as. We’ll see more of the game soon in Play Magazine and ONM, both known for the same editorial standards as The Sun: so we expect the game will be on 360, PS3 and Wii, although obviously this batch of media isn’t from the Wii version.

Looks to me like that Wii Sonic game… Wild Fire, since the final name is too bad for me to remember. Though I’ve never played it, so it’s probably nothing like that.
Sonic and the Secret Rings.

Bacon: which shot do you want as the main image
Jonathan: sonic screaming
Bacon: i was afraid of that
Throw in a couple of new sidekicks, a plot of time/space dimension lark and constant reminder from the voice actors that the villain is no longer called Robotnik, and this’ll be exactly like all the other horribly awful recent Sonic games.
I wish I could be more enthusiastic, but Sega have yet to inspire hope with their ‘mascot’ these past two generations.
How could you miss this off…

He turns into..a were wolf..
Sonic, you are dead to me, an avid Sonic fanboy…what worked for Link will not work for you.
The werewolf bollocks was leaked after these screens :(
Oh God, please don’t tell me the werewolf stuff is true.
I saw a video of this on youtube and it actually looked good, but nevermind that now if they try and shoe horn something stupid into it.
It’s true. Sadly.
I agree with Richard’s comment. Graphically this looks awesome but there’s always that feeling of it replicating the same mistakes as every previous 3D Sonic game.
Wow! This could be the game we’ve all be waiting for for so long, let’s pray it doesn’t turn out to be a bitter disappointment. Ha, I seriously couldn’t resist downloading Sonic 3 on the Wii after viewing this awesome footage, good on you Sega!
