Sonic Unleashed – Officially Announced!

After the embarrassing FTP leak a few weeks back, Sega is finally ready to confirm that they are indeed working on Sonic Unleashed, the latest installment in Sonic’s horrendously flawed career.

“Sonic Unleashed is built on a powerful new “Hedgehog Engine”, which introduces seamless 3D to classic 2D camera transition” says the press release. There’s some scrap of hope left that Sonic Team has finally realised what makes the original Sonic games great – speed, a balance of horizontal levels with vertical elements (where the higher you are, the better you are doing) and no chance for Sonic’s jump n’ spin attack to send him careering off the damn level!

And then the press release spits out “when darkness sets in Sonic Unleashed players will be able to experience a completely new way to play as Sonic” – referring to Sonic’s werewolf adaption. Just because it worked for Zelda, doesn’t mean it will for you, Sonic.

Sonic Unleashed will be released in Winter 2008 on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii and Playstation 2.

Nintendo didn’t do it first, Sega did. As usual.

I do have higher hopes than usual for this game, though.

Alright trailer, Greek islands level looked alright. But what is with that music?!

Can’t they just have Super Sonic as his alter-ego instead of this feeble new-fangled werewolf lark?

Game looks good though- hopefully the framemate is consistent when you’re playing.
