BGB’s about to hit it’s forth birthday – and it’s time for what seems like our bi-yearly site update. We’ve given the site a lick of paint, cleaned a few things up, and it’s ready for primetime. Hopefully. There’s a few kinks that need to be worked out, but it’s a nice surprise for a Bank Holiday Monday. Well, not so much a surprise if you follow our Twitter feed, but there we go.
As you can see, the main thing this time is condensing the site, making it easier to read for people not using monitors the size of a monolith – and after so long we’ve finally separated the featured content from the main header, so it can be hidden when you’re not on the homepage. Splendid.
For you commenters out there, we now support avatars from Gravatars – so you can keep your avatar across thousands of Wordpress blogs – and comments from users who are logged in are also specially marked.
We’re also going to be doing more video on the site: Newswire’s back from it’s summer vacation (though Mark’s just head off on his) with the Summer Athletics special (if you haven’t checked it out yet, it involves the smashing of large amounts of electronics), with more episodes to come – and in September the show is heading on a world tour as we’ve been invited to Barcelona and California. Sure, that’s only 2 places, but it’s enough of a tour for me. And video reviews? Well, we’ve dabbled in them in a past, and with video capture and green screens being tested, look out for more of these in the future.
And apologies if there are any big problems with the new layout right now. I’d fix them, but I’m typing this on a Mac. It’s hard enough not doing ctrl+t to open a new tab. I’d describe the key you have to press, but it’s got some weird squiggly sign. And an Apple logo. But I digress.
So, hope you like the new site: there’s still some tweaks to do, and if Google Reader is being a pain (as always, it seems) please let me know. And thanks to you all for visiting BGB – it’s you visiting that means we carry on, get noticed, and trick Sky News in to thinking that I should be asked about anything.
One more thing: as mentioned earlier, Mark’s off for the week – so VGBargains will return in a week’s time, but until then, you’ve got me to keep you up to date on the latest news. Oh dear.

Congratulations for the new look!
I will be honest. It looked better before!
Also, we now support Gravatars in comments – and signed in comments appear in a different colour, so do author ones.
And I do have a less eye burning background file, but I’m on a piece of fruit right now.
Cool new design, a bit too blue for me personally though.
What’s this about Gravatars? Is mine still Luigi?
Huh? Avatars?
Am I blue
ooo fancy..rather like it
I thought you were changing the horrid blue background. Gah.
It was being changed, but I’m on some Fisher Price computer that’s unable to do anything so cannot stick the right one up until this evening.
It’s a bit boring and generic if I’m perfectly honest. And bright blue @_@
A step backwards, in my opinion, sorry.
I think I prefer the old one, but I do like this too. Perhaps a darker shade of blue for the background, though. This one hurts my eyes. =P
