Review – Singstar Pop Edition (PS3)

Singstar PopPresenting another injection of karaoke fodder, Sony chucks out another disc filled with SingStar tracks. This time the catalogues of Radio 1 are raided for all your pop, indie and RnB favourites.

SingStar, Playstation’s well established sing-along franchise, offers a number of hit songs to belt out, doling out points for staying in tune. The PS3 games offer big updates to the Playstation 2 titles with an online store for new songs (at 99p each) and an online social networking channel full of silly videos, photos and audio clips.

The game introduces voice controlled menus (which works surprisingly well, allowing you to search by artist, song name or genre with your voice) and trophies, but both are patched into all available PS3 singstar games.

The track list is as eclectic and diverse as ever with a large Brit-indie-pop contingent, such as Kings of Leon, The Killers and Kaiser Chiefs, joined by Robbie Williams, Sugababes and Amy Winehouse.

As we say every time a Singstar game plops through the letter box, 30 songs for the £24.99 RRP is an obvious bargain but the cash would be better spent of 25 songs you’ll really enjoy. With over 700 songs on the online e-store, finding your favourites won’t be tough.

You have to memorise all of the lines from Patch Adams and say them in time with the film. Its weird.
