Weekly News Wrap-Up – Tomb Raider: Legend of Kate from LOST

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Prestige Edition

Modern Warfare 2 – Price Hike and Night Vision Goggles
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Infinity Ward has decided to slap the COD brand name on after all) will release with three versions this November. The normal edition (which saw a price hike to £54.99 RRP, and is available for preorder at £44.99), a steelbook ‘Hardened Edition’ (£69.99) and a ‘Prestige Edition’ (£119.99). The latter comes with working Night Vision Goggles, an art book and a download code for the original Call of Duty on Xbox Live Arcade or Playstation Network. It will be exclusive to HMV.

Xbox 360’s Autumn Dash Update Previewed
Microsoft has shown off details of the upcoming dashboard update for Xbox 360. Your avatar will have a bunch more costumes and animated props to wear with the avatar marketplace and “awardables”, giving you avatar togs for gaming accomplishments. The update will also push the Games on Demand service (with titles such as Mass Effect and the Viva Pinata games), user ratings and improvements to Xbox Live parties.

Professor Layton 2 gets Euro Release Date
The DS’s excellent puzzle and riddle adventure Professor Layton will see a European release on September 25th. The US gets it month earlier on August 24th – DS is region free, so feel free to import it from the states.

Tomb Raider 9?

New Tomb Raider (9?) Art Leaked
Concept art for a brand new Tomb Raider game was leaked on to the net this week. While it’s a rumour and should be taken with a grain of salt, Eidos asked some sites to take the images and information down, threatening legal action. I think we’ve been threatened similarly three times now (Ubisoft, Activision and Ziff Davis Media). The art shows a younger Lara riding horses and lighting up caves with fiery torches. There are also hints at open world Tomb Raiding, melee combat and horror-like elements. Oh joy.

Mafia 2, Max Payne 3, Red Dead, BioShock 2 out in 2010 – Heavy Rain too
If you had high hopes of playing any of the above games before Christmas, you’re out of luck. “We continue to evaluate the optimal release window for these titles and currently plan to release all four titles in the first half of calendar 2010,” said Ben Feder, CEO of Take-Two. Across the (slightly smaller) pond in France, Quantic Dream as confirmed that PS3 exclusive adventure Heavy Rain will also wait until New Year’s. Apparently the Heavy Rain alpha was delivered “on April 15 – on time, on budget”, so the game is content complete, and just receiving bucket loads of polish before release.

Notable Releases This Week – The Bigs 2 (Xbox 360)
More over-the-top baseball fun from The Bigs, complete with pinball, minigames and arcade action. Also:
Line Rider: Freestyle (DS)

Seriously, she looks like Kate from LOST in that picture.

Here was me hoping we might be getting an obligatory Kate picture, but unfortunately not. :(

Hmm thats a hefty price tag on COD:MW2 and I doubt the nightvision goggles on the ‘prestige edition’ are much good given my past experiences with a dodgy Balaclava that came bundled with Rainbow Six 3… That said I’ll probably purchase the game anyway, multiplayers good fun and coop looks promising.

She does look like Kate from LOST indeed, definitely looking forward to BioShock 2.
