Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep – PSP
Birth by Sleep is a prequel to the first Kingdom Hearts (Playstation 2, 2002), focussing on Terra, Ven, and Aqua; three characters introduced in a secret ending to Kingdom Hearts II. Taking place ten years prior, the game focuses on the story of knights that wield Keyblades, before Sora.
The game runs on the Final Fantasy: Crisis Core engine and was developed by the Kingdom Hearts: ReChain of Memories team; a PS2 remake of Kingdom Hearts’ handheld debut, on GBA. Birth by Sleep will also retain Chain of Memories’ card battling system, and feature various platforming sections.
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days – Nintendo DS
358 over 2 days ties the gap between Chain of Memories (GBA, 2005) and Kingdom Hearts II (PS2, 2006). The game features the creation of Roxas and the time until his confrontation with Riku that leads to his placement in Twilight Town in Kingdom Hearts II. Hey, maybe that’s a huge spoiler, but I quit playing when I had to do skateboard tricks to deliver pizza or something. Roxas, Tony Hawk you are not.
You know what? These games have become less and less interesting to me. The key reason I bothered to try these games were the cool Disney stages. Now it seems to be heavily diluted and more about spiky headed kids in hoodies. Great; another soon to be indistinguishable RPG series from Square-Enix.
Dissidia: Final Fantasy – PSP
Dissidia is a spin-off in the Final Fantasy series that pits characters from almost every main Final Fantasy game against each other, in a 3D fighting game on PSP.
A veritable eden for Final Fantasy fanatics, the game features heroes such as Squall and Tidus, and plenty of villains from Kefka to Sephiroth. They’re the only ones I’ve heard of.
