Sony Europe has announced the dates and venues for the Killzone 2 “Mobile Training Facility”; a bus presumably filled with PS3s, HDTVs and copies of Killzone 2.

The facility “will be travelling the land, dishing out tips and pointers on bashing the Helghast”, says ThreeSpeech. The dates are as follows:

Saturday 28th February – Jubilee Square, Brighton
Saturday 7th March – The Custard Factory, North Yard, Birmingham
Sunday 8th March – Great Northern Square, Manchester

Killzone 2 will be released on February 27th, and the online servers will be up on Wednesday the 25th, for you lucky tykes who got it early.

Review – Killzone 2

nullThe Helghast, your mortal enemy and cannon fodder for the next eight hours of vigorously assaulting, fast paced FPS action, are iconic in design and terrifyingly fashioned. Their black trench coat armour, rigged up with an assortment of curious pipes, the only sign of life is two glowing red eyes, and their surprising British accents.

They inhabit Helghan, a hostile planet which seems to exist purely for war and murder, ironically beautiful with its awe-inspiring vistas cut off at the horizon by deadly acidic smog, blood smeared across the crumbling architecture and giant cockroaches gnawing at human flesh. The planet’s population is intimidating and oppressive, with Helghan enlistment posters on every wall, propaganda spewing from loudspeakers and all manner of drones and drop ships occupying your immediate airspace; even a tantalising whisper of Nazi and Fascism.

So it stands to reason that Killzone 2 is about getting in, mowing down every “red-eye” in sight, and getting the hell out. Actions speak louder than words for Guerrilla, and story takes second place to the action. Your teammates, a motley crew of frat boy jackasses who fire profanities faster than bullets, somehow become likeable and dependable by the game’s later missions, with emotional scenes having a surprising resonance, albeit with a healthy scoop of gravitas. Heck, remembering their names is cause for applaud, these days.

Vicarious Video – Killzone 2 Bridge Sniping

Welcome to Vicarious Video from Britishgaming.co.uk, a series of videos, showing off new demos and games with colour commentary from one or more of the BGB team.

This video contains footage of the fourth Killzone 2 level, and therefore contains weapon and level spoilers.

Our second video features footage from the full version of Killzone 2. Mark forgets how to use the SixAxis, spouts Total Recall quotes and snipes Helghast on a Bridge that leads to the Helghan academy.

Vicarious Video – Killzone 2

Welcome to Vicarious Video from Britishgaming.co.uk, a series of videos, showing off new demos and games with colour commentary from one or more of the BGB team.

Up first is the demo for Killzone 2, a PS3 exclusive shooter. This isn’t a review, and is hardly a preview – I make more gun noises than actual criticisms, and I talk more about my terrible capture card than the game’s mechanics.

Killzone 2 Demo on European PSN Soon

null

Sony Europe has confirmed to us that Killzone 2 will see a demo on the Playstation Store in Europe.

This is in contrast to the American demo, which is exclusive to retailer GameStop, prior to the game’s release.

A source close to Sony told Eurogamer that the European Demo is likely to be available before the game releases, in late February. SCEE however told us “[we] can’t confirm the release date or contents at this time.”

We will have a full review for the game, in the coming weeks
