Spotlight: Soul Calibur IV
The tale of the soul revolves around a sword that, after years of bloodshed and hatred, gained a soul of its own – the Soul Edge – and the sword forged to counter it – Soul Calibur.
Soulcalibur IV instates new gameplay mechanics into the series in the form of damage-absorbing armour (that can be shattered) and Critical Finishes (both tied to the new Soul Gauge).
A myriad of new brawlers will enter the fray including guest character Darth Vader and Yoda, as well as characters designed from acclaimed Anime artists.

Lucasarts and Namco have announced that the protagonist from upcoming action title, The Force Unleashed, will be a playable fighter in Soul Calibur 4.
Namco’s fighter is already the battleground for Yoda and Darth Vader, but this new character trips on the Dark Side as it was announced previously that you play the Secret Apprentice to bad boy Vader.
Sure, Vader and Yoda were a unique taste of fan service, but this reeks of Brand Synergy.

Not LeChuck, that’s Soul Calibur IV’s Cervantes
Over the past week, various publishers have announced firm release dates for three upcoming summer hits.
Battlefield: Bad Company – June 23rd (Xbox 360, Playstation 3)
“Action fans and gamers worldwide will get their chance to join the ‘B’ company on exciting, sometimes irreverent, missions that take them through deserts, cities and mountain terrain to capture the spoils of war. Players will experience the tactical, destructive power in the deep single player campaign or go online for intense multiplayer action that only the Battlefield team can deliver.”
HAZE – May 23rd (Playstation 3)
“Coming exclusively to the Playstation Network in early May, a playable demo will give gamers a taste of not only the single-player campaign in Haze, but will also allow up to four-player, drop-in drop-out co-op play online.”
Soul Calibur 4 – July 29th (Xbox 360, Playstation 3)
“Now gamers as obsessed with Soulcalibur IV as the game’s protagonists are with the titular sword can finally mark their calendars. Namco Bandai today confirmed a July 29 North American release date for the game, which will launch in regular and limited Premium Edition packages.” (Gamespot)
Remember, Darth Vader is only available in the PS3 version while Yoda is available only on the 360 version.

No, you’re not seeing things; that’s Darth Vader fighting Voldo; Light Saber vs daggers. Namco has announced the guest characters in upcoming fighter, Soul Calibur 4; Yoda and Darth Vadar from classic sci-fi movie series, Star Wars.
Update: The lord of the Dark Side, Vader, will appear in the Playstation 3 version and the sentance jumbling midgit, Yoda, will be in the Xbox 360 edition.
While Playstation 2 exclusive Soul Calibur 3 avoided the guest star routine, Calibur 2 featured Nintendo’s Link, Tekken’s Heihachi and comic character, Spawn.
1UP’s James Mielke imagines that we’ll see more Star War’s characters down the line because “it’s unlikely that the company would go through all these negotiations with LucasArts to obtain the rights to only two characters”
So BGB readers, what is the biggest surprise recently; Snake vs. Mario vs. Sonic or Dark Side vs. Soul Edge?
